Anything but Politics

Posted on February 2, 2025

What a week, eh? But I am not going to talk politics or current events.

I was talking to a few people on a Discord server, yeah, yeah, I know. It was that time of the week again when I am needing to come up with something to write. The last couple have been easy, something happened in the week, and it gave me a prompt and somethingto write about. But this week, there was too much happening and I was feeling overwhelmed. So I took a step back.

We were talking about food, someone left some behind and it got eaten on them, someone else wanted to make a brunch and somehow got banana and oat pancakes & sausages from my suggestion of chicken and waffles. I had seen maple chicken in Tesco's reduced section, but without the reduced sticker on it, so I didn't get it. On a budget, see, that's about to get a whole lot tighter.

I was ruminating about my blog, had just shared Rosy chapter 1, so this was all on my mind. I had the suggestion that I write about politics, and I thought... Anything but.

I have done some more design work on my little cyberduck project. Mostly prorotyping up somed designs in Fusion. I have a UK milsup ManPak bag that is supposed to hold a terminal that's 250 x 150 x 60mm but when measuring I think it's a faulty seconds, because there is no way that something that size will even stuff into this, so I am mocking up a box that should in theory fit inside it and hold the things I need. Measurements are more like 230 x 125 x 55mm. I have a 3D printer, so making the box won't be a problem. I just need to fix the bloody thing.

I will get some screenshots and update the projects page with some graphics and the like for my cyberduck. Unfortunately the Ansible configuration doesn't work anymore so I will need to work on that. I want something that I can just pick up, tear down, and with some copied SSH keys, be up and running no matter what happens. So far I have a Raspberry Pi 3, a screen, a bluetooth folding keyboard, but I have, aparrently, orderd a battery for the Pi. I don't remember doing that, but I must have. Amazon says one is on the way.

So I am still having a think... This particular project is one that I have been wanting to do for ages but it'll have cost more than a refurbished laptop if I take into account costs of stuff I already have. It wouldn't be nearly as much fun though. What good is a refurb laptop with a knackered battery when I can have a smaller screen, an indeterminate time on battery, but everything that I need to just write my novels in a package that doesn't let me be distracted.
